Expense Manager ("we", "our", or "us") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application handles your information, permissions, and data security.

            Key Summary: Expense Manager is an offline-first application. Your financial data, transaction details, SMS processing, and AI features run entirely on your local device. We do not store, sell, or transmit your personal financial records to external servers.
        

1. SMS Permission & Transaction Detection

Expense Manager requests SMS permissions (such as RECEIVE_SMS and READ_SMS) on Android solely to automate expense tracking. Here is how we handle your SMS data:

Local Parsing Only: The app parses incoming and existing SMS messages directly on your device to detect bank debit/credit transaction alerts.
Strict Filtering: Only financial transaction alerts from bank/service sender IDs are analyzed. Personal chats, OTPs, authentication messages, and non-financial texts are completely ignored.
No Cloud Upload: Your SMS text, transaction messages, and sender information are never transmitted, uploaded, or sold to our servers or any third parties.

2. On-Device AI / Local LLM (Offline Intelligence)

Expense Manager utilizes on-device Large Language Models (LLMs) and local machine learning models for intelligent receipt parsing, category suggestions, and financial insights:

100% On-Device Execution: All AI processing is performed locally using your device's hardware (e.g., local AI runtimes).
Zero External Data Sharing: Your personal financial queries, prompts, and parsed transaction texts are never sent to external AI cloud APIs or third-party AI providers.

3. Overlay Feature (System Alert Window)

The app requests the "Display over other apps" (System Alert Window / Overlay) permission for user convenience:

Quick Expense Popups: When a new transaction SMS or payment notification is detected, the app displays a lightweight floating overlay/bubble so you can quickly confirm, edit category, or add the expense without interrupting your current workflow.
Non-Intrusive & Controllable: The overlay only appears upon relevant financial triggers and can be disabled at any time within the app settings or Android device settings.

4. Local Data Storage

All your transactions, accounts, budgets, notes, and preferences are stored locally on your device using a local embedded database (Hive). We do not host your financial database, and we cannot access your financial records.

5. Third-Party Services

The app integrates standard third-party SDKs for advertisements and app maintenance:

Google AdMob: Used to display advertisements to support app development. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
Firebase: Used for app update notifications and crash/error reporting to maintain application stability.

6. Permissions & User Control

All sensitive permissions (SMS, Overlay, Notifications) are optional and requested with explicit user consent. You can grant or revoke any permission at any time via your device's Settings > Apps > Expense Manager > Permissions.

7. Children's Privacy

Our app does not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13.
